Privacy Policy

KLVN is built to see as little of your data as possible. This page explains exactly what happens to your photos and the little else we collect.

What we collect

  • Photos you choose. KLVN never reads your whole photo library — only the specific photo you pick for an edit.
  • An anonymous account. No email, no password. We generate a random account to track your credit balance and your edit history.
  • Purchase records. Apple handles payment; we only learn that a purchase happened and how many credits it granted.
  • An anti-fraud device marker. So that the one free edit can’t be claimed over and over, we store an irreversible cryptographic hash of a random identifier generated on your device. It contains nothing about you or your phone, it is not linked to your account, and it cannot be reversed. It is the one thing we keep when you delete your account — see How long we keep things.

We don’t use any analytics or advertising trackers.

Instant Filters vs. Cloud Relighting

21 Instant Filters run entirely on your iPhone. No account, no credits, no waiting, and no network requests. When you use an Instant Filter, the photo never leaves your device and is processed purely by on-device GPU shaders.

Cloud Looks send a resized copy of the photo — with location and camera metadata stripped — to our servers and to our image processor for lighting reconstruction. KLVN asks you to explicitly confirm before any photo is ever uploaded.

Photos of people, and faces

KLVN relights photos, and most of them have people in them. We want to be precise about what that does and doesn’t involve.

  • A photo of a face is personal data, and in some places it can be sensitive personal data. We treat it that way. We ask for your explicit consent before the first photo is ever uploaded, and you can withdraw it by sticking to Free looks or deleting your account.
  • We do not run facial recognition, we do not build or store face templates or faceprints, and we do not try to identify anyone. Nothing links one photo to another.
  • The only thing that happens to a face is that the lighting and colour around it change. Please only upload photos you have the right to use.

Who handles your photos

Our hosting
Supabase — our database and the short-lived storage your photo passes through
AI processing
A third-party AI image provider, which relights the single photo you submitted
What we send them
A resized copy of your photo, stripped of location and camera metadata, plus the relighting instructions for the look you picked
What we never send
Your account identifier, purchase history, name or contact details — we have none of these to send
Used for training?
No. Your photos are not used to train any model.

We don’t sell data, and we don’t share your photos with anyone else. Our provider processes them only to produce the edit you asked for, on our instructions.

Where your photo is processed

Our servers are hosted in the United States, and our AI provider may process your photo outside your own country. If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area, that means your photo is transferred outside it. Those transfers rely on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, which are built into our agreements with the providers we use.

How long we keep things

  • On our servers:the photo you upload is deleted within 24 hours, and the finished result within 1 hour. This runs on a schedule, automatically — it isn’t a promise we keep by hand. Your edits stay on your phone until you delete them.
  • At our AI provider:your photo is processed and then deleted under that provider’s own retention terms. We download the finished image immediately and don’t rely on their copy.
  • When you delete your account(Settings → Delete My Data): your account, credits, edit history and every photo of yours on our servers are erased immediately and permanently. The only thing retained is the irreversible anti-fraud hash described above, which isn’t linked to the account being deleted and can’t be traced back to you.

If something goes wrong

If a data breach affects your information, we will notify affected users and any regulator we’re required to tell, as the law requires.

Your choices

  • Stick to Free looks and nothing ever leaves your phone.
  • Delete your account and all of its data at any time from Settings.
  • Turn off the KLVN watermark on saved photos from Settings.
  • Ask us for a copy of your data, or for it to be corrected or erased, at [email protected]. Because accounts are anonymous, we may only be able to act on a request made from the device holding the account.

Children

KLVN is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
